THE WONDER DOLL: #TipsForUPLBFreshies
Note: Inspired from Ate Larra’s #TipsForUSTFreshies
First of all, I want to congratulate the incoming freshmen for passing the UPCAT. Second, welcome to UPLB. :) I’m glad you chose to study in this UP system despite all the bad news and comments it received the past months.
When I read Ate Larra’s tips, I suddenly thought of making one for UPLB Freshies just so I could give them a heads up before entering the university this coming June. I’m an incoming sophomore so these tips are based from my own experience two semesters ago. :>
- Attend the campus tour - No one wants to be lost in the first day of classes because there will be no maps available around the campus. If you personally know someone (an upperclassman perhaps), you can ask a favor from him/her to tour you around the second time if you didn’t get to memorize the places. PS. You’ll get to know your blocmates through this — that is, if you’re not late on the day of the tour. PPS. I’ll be joining the campus tour this year. :)
- Always bring an umbrella - The weather in Los Banos gets pretty moody. In the morning, it’s usually warm, then comes the very hot afternoon, and a drizzle or rain in the evening. Umbrellas surely help.
Better yet, ask someone which jeepney route to take (or if you even need to ride a jeepney) before the classes start. You wouldn’t want to be toured around the Freedom Park just to get you to the other side of the lower campus.
- Always always always always bring your registration form - Most professors ask for your Form 5 (registration form) in the first meeting of the class so they could check if you’re really in their class, so be sure to have them with you.
- Verify your ID - Your IDs are as important as your Form 5 but you have to verify them as soon as possible because some professors demand so. Madali lang naman. Just know your college, where to verify, go there and that’s it. PS. Please please please always bring this with you.
That is if you’re confident enough and wouldn’t mind stares from people.
- MAKAKA-IPON KA SA LB. PRAMIS.
- Don’t settle for fast food chains - First, and most important of all, it’s bad for your health. Second, there are lots of better and cheaper/ “sulit” foods around the campus, especially in College (the “main street” leading to UP gate). You can try: Coop, Mang Toto, tapsilogan across Vega, Mernovenlli, Ellen’s, and Vat Cave.
- Wear any shoes you’re most comfortable with - Sa UPLB, masasanay kayong maglakad ng maglakad ng maglakad. Don’t hurt yourself just because your pair of shoes look so “fashionista”. Huwag maging tiis-ganda. You can look good with any comfortable flats or sneakers or even just flipflops.
- Know your professors - Some profs are well-known so better ask around what kind of prof is he/ she, that way you could adjust to his/ her demands and you’ll know what to do.
- Freshmen are not allowed to join orgs.
- Hindi nerdy ang mag-take down ng notes - Scribble notes as much as you can (but you can opt not to if there’s an available print outs/ e-notes) because this will surely help you. A lot. Some profs are wise enough to add important details during their lecture.
- Welcome sa madaming photocopying centers at computer shops.
- Take note of your allowable absences - Sometimes, attendance has a percentage (5-10%) in a professor’s grading system. Perfect this because it might give you a 0.25 notch higher. Unless you want to drop a subject.
- Attend your bloc meetings - It will take an hour of your time but at least you’ll get to know your blocmates. It’s a great opportunity to bond and make friends with your soon-to-be “family” — that is, if all of you will be on time students and none of you will shift to another course or transfer to another campus.
- MAY MOONLEAF SA LB. Kaya don’t worry.

This will come in handy to help me live it up. :)

Ure welcome :)
I believe in dreamers. It’s sad kapag hate niyo ung tao na nagsisipag at ginagalingan sa craft nila. Trying hard? At least they are trying hard to become successful in life. Minsan inggit at insecurities mo yan. Araw araw may improvement. ;)
